Dan Skinner

 This edition of "Images of Masculinity" stars the men of the wonderful Dan Skinner, aka "Dan TheDanimal" on FaceBook, or as he's known on DeviantArt, where I first met him, cerberuseros  (http://cerberuseros.deviantart.com/)

        Dan not only has an unerring eye for masculine beauty of all kinds, but also knows how to show affection as well as lust. He uses a nice variety of models, unlike some photographers who limit themselves to one "type". 

(But how about some daddies and more bears, Dan? (g))

After I found some great photos of men sweating and enjoying the summer,  I asked Dan to tell us about himself:


"My name is Dan, I'm a 24 year old queer man living in Portland Oregon, and am self taught, having started photography a year and four months ago."


He left out that he's as hot as his photos, as we can see from this self portrait, which Dan calls both "Cocky" and "Dirty". I think it's both, and more...

For my last two posting on “It’s Raining Men”, I’ve featured the artwork of the prolific and unusual Israeli Artist, Raphael Perez, also known as Rafi. His image  

has become the “mascot” of my Project to collect stories for a an anthology to raise money to support marriage equality, currently in New York State. 

       When I approached Rafi through his deviant Art page at http://shharc.deviantart.com/  to be include his work in our Blogs, he was so enthusiastic to participate that he emailed me dozens of pieces of his art, as well as a collection of  interesting photos.

        Some of his pieces show that Rafael Perez is a classically trained painter, with stunning images full of reality. But his main style is what he refers to as “naïve”, but I call “graffiti style”, living in New York where these sorts of images pop up on walls like mushrooms.

        Today I am including a combination of his works in both styles as an introduction. 

        I hope you love them like I do.

Images of Masculinity- Part One

POST #1

Welcome to the start of "Images Of Masculinity", our answer to the "Man Candy" you'll find at so many other blogs. 

When I volunteered to add this to my responsibilities of writing a weekly contribution on Tuesdays, I decided to follow a rule I will be following when I add "Manly Monday Pics" to my own Blog soon. (Mondays' Manly Pics? Any suggestions?)

As writers, we depend on our copyrights. We should therefore respect the copyrights of other artist, such as photographers, but photos of images of scantly clad males and females flit around the Internet without the permission of the creator.  I do some photography and photomanipulation art, and have found some of MY stuff on strange Blogs. 

So here are my rules; I've asked a group of photographers and artist at DeviantArt.com who I already know for permission to use their material. Two photographers have given me total permission to use their images, but I have promised to include a link back to their pages.  some of them sell art quality prints of their work to support their art.  Another's permission is dependent on the models giving me permission. Others are pending.

I WILL use vintage photos that are from unknown sources, and obviously not current. Technically I am violating SOMEONE'S copyright, but there are limits to my time, and this is non-profit.

For my first presentation, I will feature the work of my friend Andrei from Russia, and i used two of his works on my own website: one for the banner, and one for the title picture for Works In Progress Wednesdays. I think that Andrei is brilliant, and he finds most of his models at his local gym, so if you like young body-builders, check out his page at : http://vishstudio.deviantart.com/

This first one, "The Three Graces", is the one I use for Works In Progress Wednesday by adding the words across the bottom.

This photo of a smiling leatherman, titled "Making of" greets visitors to my Blog - the background blurred to put my name and slogan "Love, Lust, Laugh" on it for my Banner.

This strangely names photo: "Successful Birth Experience" is Andrei of Vishstudio with a new camera.
